What is Freemasonry?
It is one of the world's oldest social and charitable organisations. Its roots are connected to the working stonemasons who built castles and cathedrals; modern Freemasonry uses that craft as a language for character, learning and service.
Members come from different careers, generations and outlooks. Inside the Lodge they meet on equal terms, practise time-honoured ceremonies, conduct Lodge business and support charitable work. Afterwards, there is time for food, conversation and friendship.

Our ceremonies are private, but their purpose is not mysterious: they encourage reflection, responsibility and good conduct.
Meet & learn
The Lodge handles its business and may conduct a traditional ceremony or hear an educational talk.

Myth / fact

- “Is it a religion?”
- No. Freemasonry is not a religion and does not replace a member's faith.
- “Is it political?”
- No. Party politics and sectarian religious debate have no place in Lodge meetings.
- “Why is anything private?”
- Some ceremonies and modes of recognition are kept private so every new member can experience them in the intended way.
- “Can the public visit?”
- Yes. Open days and public events are the ideal chance to see the building and meet us.
